Generalized Pest Control Services
Most people give us a call when a single pest invades their home or business. Why is it that some homes seem never to be bothered by pests? Some of it is good luck, and there is a lot of hard work involved in making a home unattractive to pests. What can you do to make your home less of a pest-target? Please keep reading, and we go through some tips and tricks that reduce the pest population around your home or business.
Keep It Clean
Reducing the pest population around your home includes keeping the yard and outbuildings neat and clean. Leaf litter is a place for pests to hide and find shelter from the weather. Even in the summer, insects and small pests need a place to stay out of the heat, find water, and of course, find food. Remove piles of stuff – old lumber, appliances, old cars, etc. – so that pests, especially rodents, cannot find shelter.
Trim the Foliage
Shrubs and trees near the house can be a ladder for wildlife to gain access to the roof. Once there, squirrels and raccoons may dig up the roof to get into the attic or crawl space. Keeping shrubs and trees trimmed also helps to reduce the places that pests can hide. An excellent example of this is ticks. Ticks crawl up tall grass and shrubs so that the foliage brushes them onto you or a pet as you walk by.
Move the Garbage
Garbage and recycling are two “buffets” for pests of all sizes. Moving both moves the opportunity for pests that target trash and recycling to get acquainted with your home. Raccoon, stray pets, ants, mice, roaches, flies, wasps, and so many other pests love garbage. Keep it secure and away from the building.
