Controlling House Flies and They That’s Important
House flies belong to the Diptera group, which has many species in it. They are one of the most disgusting creatures you will encounter. There are over 120,000 species of flies in the world, and many of them are common in homes.
Why House Flies Are Dangerous
Flies are responsible for over 65 different human diseases. One of the more common diseases that flies can spread to humans is Salmonella. House flies, such as the green bottle fly, lap up fluids as adults. They prefer things that are rotting and then lap up the liquids from dead things. That alone is disgusting, but when they land, they throw it back up. Those brown spots on the windowsill are fly barf. If they land on your sandwich, they puke up whatever they last ate. Then you eat it. That is how they spread disease. Wherever they land, they leave pathogens – on the counter, on your plate, on your food. They also leave behind eggs and parasites that can use you as a host when they hatch. The risk of getting sick from fly residue makes flies one of the most dangerous health pests around.
Types of Flies You Find In The House
There are many types of flies in homes. Those include:
- Fruit flies
- Drain flies
- Bottle Flies
- Flesh Flies
- Mosquitos
- Biting Flies
- and others.
Of these fly types, mosquitoes are perhaps the most well-known. They, too, spread diseases, such as West Niles Virus. Fruit Flies and Drain flies are highly annoying. Biting flies, too, are horrible, but the most significant risk from them is a secondary infection due to scratching the bite.
It is the house flies that do the most damage. As a result, you may get food poisoning, dysentery, and so many other illnesses.
House flies are home pests.
What Can You Do About House Flies
For some species of flies, you can put up bait traps. Those can smell and attract flies to that area. Most bait traps are rated for outdoor use only. Other types of traps are available. DIY products can be messy, and if you misuse spray, it can be dangerous. Physical barriers such as air streams near doorways help keep flies out of your home.
It is more challenging to control flies outdoors.
We can help with fly control indoors or outside. However, House flies should not disrupt the quality of indoor or outdoor living.
We offer a range of pest control services, including an affordable monthly services call. When it comes to controlling flies, the monthly treatment works best. Different types of flies emerge at different types of the year. Some of those may be present all summer long, or like the biting flies, here in spring and gone by mid-summer.
Our deep knowledge of pests and their behavior allows us to efficiently control them before their populations become so large that they are an emergency pest-control service issue.
We provide quality and affordable pest control services throughout the Bryan and College Station communities.
