The Insect Lifecycle and Why Monthly Service is Key
What happens in the winter to insects? They disappear and then come back again in the spring or summer. It may seem as though that is what happens, but the magic of spring reappearance for many insects is more tragic. This blog discusses the insect lifecycle and why a monthly pest control service plan is essential. The Start of Winter
By the start of winter, many insect populations have dwindled to a few species here and there. When the cold hits, most adult insects die. A few find a place to hide from the cold and reemerge in the spring. So, how is it that so many insects show up again in the spring and summer? The answer to that question is found within the insect lifecycle.
The Wasp and the Cold
Yellowjackets, by the end of summer, may live in colonies that are over 10,000 wasps strong. However, by December, you hardly see yellowjackets. The adult yellow jackets mostly die when the season turns cold. Yet they are back again as soon as the weather warms in April or May. They die because of the cold and because there is nothing for them to forage and their presence in the colony takes up resources. Some adult wasps survive, but the true treasure of the nest is the eggs.
The insect lifecycle is essential because insects live in different forms. In the spring, the yellowjacket eggs will hatch into larvae, which they then pupate and emerge as adult wasps. While the other adults have died off, the new adults emerge programmed to hunt for food and defend the nest and queen.
The Insect Lifecycle
Insects have one of two lifecycles: a complete lifecycle or an incomplete lifecycle. Wasps, bees, beetles, and others have a complete lifecycle; They are eggs, larvae, pupa, and adults. Insects such as stink bugs have an incomplete lifecycle. They are an egg, an instar, or a nymph, and after several episodes where they shed, they become an adult. They come out of the egg as a miniature version of the adult and then molt as they grow.
As eggs, larvae, pupa, instars, nymphs, or adults, insects are always around because we cannot see the adult does not mean that insects are not in our homes, clothing, cars, etc.
Monthly Pest Control Services
We offer monthly pest control service contracts and help take care of emerging pest problems before they get started. So whether we need to take care of wasps, cockroaches, or flies, we can do so regardless of the current stage of their lifecycle.
Monthly pest control services help keep insect populations as small as possible. Our affordable plans offer you the most protection from pest invasions by treating pest populations as they emerge.
